Erasmus+: Serbia becomes programme country

Serbia, which has been an EU member state candidate since 2012, will expand its participation in the Erasmus + programme and become a full programme country. Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, and Mladen Šarčević, Serbian minister for Education, Science and technological development signed a corresponding agreement in Brussels on 7 February 2019.

Serbia had already been active in the Erasmus+ programme as a partner country since 2014 and had been preparing for full participation since 2016. So far, almost 7,000 Serbian students and employees have been able to complete a learning phase abroad, while around 4,300 Europeans have visited Serbia.

Ahead of the recent signing in Brussels, EU Commissioner Navracsics expressed his pleasure: "This new status will allow Serbia to participate in more actions in the fields of higher education and youth, start its involvement in sport, vocational education and training as well as in actions for school and adult education staff."
