Everyone is talking about the Internet of Things (IoT) in the workplace and outside of it. IoT is a technological development which is starting to become increasingly present in our day-to-day lives.  The European Commission describes the IoT as merging "physical and virtual worlds, creating smart environments." Economically, the IoT is expected to have a significant impact in the years to come.

In this webinar, we try to promote learning about IoT in a creative way. We present the “Tiles IoT inventor toolkit” which is a low threshold entry point to the design of IoT applications. The researchers of NTNU have developed and tested the toolkit in real-world settings (classrooms, universities, and the workplace). It comprises two main components: a design methodology, and a set of materials that are freely available online. During the webinar we will present both of them, followed by some practical lessons learned about challenges in the classroom.

The methodology consists of four main phases: 1) the introductory activities, 2) the design challenge (i.e. create an IoT-infused design solution), 3) the transition from design to programming/prototyping and 4) the programing/prototyping challenge (i.e. implement a design solution).
